Recently, Flamco conducted an LCA for their new Flexcon Premium expansion vessel, comparing it with four Flamco expansion vessels and a competitor's model. The LCA focused on key factors determining the environmental impact, using 18 different indicators summarized into four final indicators: impact on humans, ecosystems, available resources, and CO2 emissions.
Superior Environmental Performance
Flamco expansion vessels surpassed the competitor's models in all four indicators, primarily due to their extended service life. The standout performer was the 'Flexcon Premium 18 litres, 3 bar' model, demonstrating nearly three times better results than the competitor's vessel. Of particular note, Flamco expansion vessels showcased an impressive 66.1% reduction in CO2 emissions throughout their entire service life until end-of-life treatment.
Long Service Life and Lower CO2 Emissions

The vessels feature a plastic membrane made of thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO), which outperforms traditional materials like SBR and Butyl rubber in terms of durability. The TPO membrane is not only lighter, requiring up to 50% less material, but it is also highly recyclable, further reducing CO2 emissions. Additionally, the high-quality membrane, combined with a clamping ring instead of a welded connection, ensures an impressive service life of 15 years.
